Each year on October 31, Laura Canada head office employees get to swap their business attire for colourful wigs, long capes and eccentric makeup. The office is filled with candy, desks are decorated with impressive creations from the pumpkin carving contest, and mouth-watering aromas from the potluck lunch fill the air. The mood is palpable.
This year was no exception. After a fun-filled morning of costume and pumpkin reveals, team members gathered around to eat lunch together in a large conference room filled with delectable pasta dishes, mouth-watering pizza bites and gourmet-style deserts.
With full bellies and happy hearts, everyone went back to work. It wasn’t long before winners were announced for the best costumes and the most creative team pumpkin.
Frédéric, Laura’s lead graphic designer, won the prize for the funniest ensemble, while the receptionist, Catherine, took home the title for the scariest costume. The winner of the most creative attire was Nadia, the call centre supervisor. One final prize was given to the distribution team, who coordinated their outfits for the day, thus earning recognition for their group efforts.
As for the pumpkin carving contest, although many departments presented awe-inspiring creations, the merchandising design team produced the winner – a grand display of three pumpkin spice lattes.
Now that another successful Halloween season has come and gone, Laura employees can get an early start on next year’s festivities. After all, it’s not every day that they get an opportunity to come to work dressed up as their favourite superhero, an iconic movie character or an otherworldly being.
