Meet Cassandra, she’s quick on her feet and always ready to take on a new challenge. Cassandra joined our team in 2017 as part of our intern program. With a degree in fashion marketing from LaSalle College, a vibrant personality and a can-do attitude; there is no stopping her. We have proudly watched her grow into her own by building our social media presence. Let’s take a closer look.
Can you tell us more about you experience here and what a digital media coordinator does?
I started as an intern in the marketing department, then went on to become a part-time social media assistant and I recently got promoted to digital marketing coordinator. I’m mainly involved in the social media calendar for Laura and Melanie Lyne. I also assist Caitlin, (Digital Marketing and CRM Specialist) with various marketing projects.
Please describe your academic and professional background before starting at Laura.
Before starting the intern program at Laura Canada, I was completing my 2nd year of studies at LaSalle College in Fashion Marketing. I also worked on some social media accounts as a freelancer for small businesses. Of course, I was also involved in a few extracurricular fashion activities and events!
I was, for example, in charge of communications for our Fashion Show in 2016 and for the Corporate event this year.
Fashion Night is a fashion show organized every year by second-year students. The Enterprise event features graduates from my program.
I was selected among all the students in my group to take charge of communications and special guests. It was a lot of work; it took a year to prepare it. I am very proud of the outcome!
You are graduating from LaSalle College this spring! Congratulations! What will you miss the most from your student life?
I will mostly miss the relationships and connections that were created between my teachers and classmates. The thrill of creating different creative projects with different classmates and lastly, the chocolate croissant from the cafeteria. Yum!
You were part of our summer 2017 Intern program. What made you decide to apply here?
I wanted to gain experience in the fashion industry and understand what it would be like to be part of an iconic Canadian fashion brand that takes its employees’ success to heart. The Internship program was also very appealing to me, because it allowed me to discover and work with different departments.
What is the biggest difference between life as an intern and a full-time employee?
The main difference in being a full-time employee is that I get to work on impactful and long-term projects of great value with inspiring co-workers.
What is the most important thing you learned from your internship?
One of the most important factors I have learned through my internship is newfound knowledge including; professional interactions, insight on different departments, experience the company’s environment and learn a multitude of new skills.
How do you see yourself progressing in the Laura world?
I see myself growing within the company as I am constantly learning and evolving with the help of my colleagues in a fun and creative environment that most of the time doesn’t even feel like work!
