Carmela has been a part of the team at Laura Canada for over twenty years. Now, she discusses her responsibilities as director of development, and shares her proudest moments.
Hello Carmela, you’ve been with Laura Canada for over 23 years! Congratulations! Can you explain what the director of development does for the company?
The role of the director of development is finding opportunities to best complement our Laura Canada brands. On a daily basis, I analyze product performance, store performance and look for new pieces for our outlet stores.
What did you do before joining the team?
My background is in planning and allocation. This has helped me better understand all aspects of business.
What is your proudest career moment?
My proudest moments are training people and receiving great feedback from them. Patience is key to teaching anything. That goes for Excel formulas or anything else in life. Teaching was always one of my passions. I train buyers, planners and co-workers in allocation on day-to-day tasks and new systems.
What advice would you give to someone who wants to start their career at Laura Canada?
You can achieve anything you set your mind to and shared values go a long way. Be committed, dedicated and passionate.
What are you looking forward to this year?
I’m looking forward to growing new categories in our outlet stores. Especially sleepwear, gift sets and hopefully more.
